(28 Nigerian Research Scholars Awarded CSIR-TWAS Fellowships in India)

Government of India has been providing a number of training courses to Nigeria under various scholarship Programmes, including the C.V Raman Fellowship for African Researchers programme under the India-Africa Forum Summit to promote human capacity building through scientific and technological cooperation between Africa and India.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of India , a Government of India organization in association with The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Italy has been providing Postgraduate Fellowships to applicants from developing countries who wish to pursue research in various fields such as Agricultural Sciences, Structural, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biological Systems and Organisms, Medical and Health Sciences incl. Neurosciences, Chemical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Astronomy, Space and Earth Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Physics.

Un der the CSIR - TWAS fellowship , the selected Research scholars are awarded two types of fellowships namely Sandwich Fellowship (for those registered for a PhD in their home country) for a period of six months and Full time Fellowship (who are not registered for PhD) for a period of 4 - 5 years.

3. So f ar, 28 Research scholars from Nigeria have been awarded TWAS - CSIR Fellowship by Government of India to pursue research in reputed scientific institutes of India for a period ranging from 1 - 5 years. Out of those 2 8 selected candidates, 21 have already joine d the respective institutes in India and are pursuing research work in Chemical sciences, Physical sciences, Geophysical sciences, Food Science & Technology, Bio - Technology and other fields. Some of the selected Nigeria n scholars are from University of Iba dan, Imo State Un iversity, University of Ilorin and University of Calabar. The selected research scholars are provided air ticket by TWAS, while boarding & lodging and living allowance is taken care of by Government of India.
