GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
|
- Please do not finalise your travel arrangements to India before ascertaining the visa requirements. All foreign nationals, including children, require a visa to enter India.
- Visa fees are non-refundable and subject to change.
- The High Commission reserves the right of deciding the duration of visa irrespective of the fees tendered at the time of making application.
- Visas can be applied for in person at the HCI, Abuja or CGI, Lagos.
- Visa applicants from foreign nationals other than Nigerians may have to wait for requisite visa clearances
- Visitors to restricted/protected areas need special permits and for this purpose an additional form has to be completed. Please contact the High Commission of India, Abuja / CGI, Lagos if you wish to ascertain whether any of the places you intend to visit fall in the category of restricted/protected areas.
- Specific visas are granted for a variety of purposes. The principal types of visas issued are mentioned under Caption Types of Visas.
- Please contact the High Commission of India for further details if you are visiting India for purposes other than tourism, such as journalism, conferences, yoga, voluntary work, mountaineering or other expeditions.

VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS
|
Yellow Fever Vaccine : Yellow fever vaccination for all except infants under six months and polio VAC/IPV for all residents, except third country foreign nationals, are compulsory for travelling to India.

Polio Vaccine : All Nigerian Nationals visiting India would require to carry proof of vaccination for polio. All Nigerian travellers would be required to submit a valid polio vaccination certificate with at least one dose of bivalent oral polio vaccine (bOPV) or inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) within the previous 12 months and administered not less than 4 weeks prior to arrival.

PHOTO SPECIFICATIONS
|
For any Indian visa application, you are required to provide one or more photographs depending on the visa category requested. Your photos should meet the specifications established by the Indian Government.
Please follow these instructions carefully. If photos do not meet the requirements indicated below, your application will be considered incomplete and will be refused.
SIZE OF PHOTOGRAPHS :
- It is obligatory that your photo is square and measures 50mm X 50mm i.e. 2 inch x 2 inch.
- Photos should date less than 6 months and should perfectly resemble the applicant on the day of application.
- Colour: Photos should be in colour with a white background. Black and white photos will not be accepted.
- Quality: Scanned or bad quality photos will be refused. Photos should be clean, not torn or creased and printed on standard photo paper.
- Background: Background should be white. Photos with a coloured or fantasy background will be refused.
- Framing: Photos should be taken showing the head and shoulders. The face should be centred in the frame and not turned to one side, taken between 70% and 80% of the height of the photo.
- Expression: Subjects should have a neutral expression, with a closed mouth.
- Hair: Hair should not cover the face.
- Eyes: Subjects should be looking forward, with their eyes open. Glasses frames should be subtle and not block the eyes. Photos showing tinted glasses or red eyes will be refused.
- Head coverings: Head coverings will not be accepted. The Indian Government will accept any accessories worn for religious, ethnic beliefs or antecedents provided that the face remains entirely visible.
INSTRUCTIONS ON USING THE PHOTOS
- Your first photo should be glued on the form in the box provided on page 1 of your application form. This photo will be scanned and will appear on your visa.
- Your second photo should be glued on the bottom right hand corner of page 2 of your application form.
- At least two photos will be required: all photos provided must be identical.

NOTE
|
Persons holding long term visas (having validity exceeding 6 months) are normally expected to stay in India for a maximum of 6 months during each visit. Please refer to the boxed note further down for requirement to register with the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO)/Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).

Persons of Indian origin holding multiple entry X-visas, visiting India to meet relatives or for social purposes, are required to register with the FRO/FRRO within 14 days of first arrival only if they intend to stay continuously for more than 6 months. This registration is required during the first visit after the visa is issued. Subsequent travels using the same visa do not require registration. Children below the age of 16 years are exempt from this requirement. All other visitors to India, including those of Indian origin, holding any other category of visa valid for more than 6 months should register with the FRO/FRRO within 14 days of arrival in India.
