Distinguished Visitors Programme - 15-23 December 2017)

Dr. AttahiruMuhammaduJega, Former Chairman of Independent National Election Commission (INEC) of Nigeria, accompanied by his wife, will be visiting India at the invitation of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi under Distinguished Visitors Programme from 15-23 December, 2017.

Under “Distinguished Visitors Programme”, ICCR facilitates visits to India by eminent scholars, intellectuals, leading representatives of think-tanks and cultural institutions, well-known personalities in the field of politics, academics, art & culture to interact with institutions and audiences in India. This programme is aimed at fostering and strengthening cultural relations and mutual understanding between India and other countries.

During his visit to India, Dr.Jega is scheduled to meet with Minister for Human Resource Development, Minister of State for External Affairs and Chief Election Commissioner of India. He would also be meeting Vice Chancellors of JamiaMilliaIslamia, and National Law University in New Delhi. He will be in Kolkata for two days, where he is scheduled to meet with Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University. He will also be visiting Mumbai and meet the Vice Chancellor of Mumbai University.

Under ICCR’s Distinguished Visitor’s Programme several eminent personalities from all over the world have visited India over the years. Some of the distinguished guests who have visited from Africa include Dr.ZiadBahaa-Eldin, Former Dy. Prime Minister of Egypt; Shiekh Rashid Ghannouchi, President of Ennahda Party, Tunisia; Dr. Sam Nujoma, Founding President of Namibia; Dr.NegeriLencho, Minister of Communicatio Affairs, Ethiopia.

Besides visiting various historical monuments in Delhi, Dr. Jega will also be visiting Agra including the world famous Taj Mahal.
